The Paragon School is pleased to reveal that it is to host The Telegraph Bath Festival of Children’s Literature this autumn. We are proud to announce that The Paragon is a major sponsor of the event, supporting five of the most renowned authors of children’s contemporary literature – Michael Morpurgo, Michael Rosen, Lauren Child, Debi Gliori, and Michelle Paver.
The 2012 festival, which takes place from Friday 28th September until Sunday 7th October, is going to be bigger than ever and as a result requires an additional venue. As part of the partnership between Bath Festivals and The Prior Foundation and a real first for the Kids LitFest, we are delighted to be hosting public events on both weekends of the festival. In addition, throughout the week, there will be a series of author events for schools held at The Paragon.
Just under a mile from the centre of Bath, the school is based in a beautiful Georgian house and eight acres of gardens and woodland. Belinda Kidd, Chief Executive of Bath Festivals enthuses about the new venue;
“When we saw the fantastic facilities the school has to offer, we knew we had found somewhere very special for the festival – and so close to town! It’s a warm and welcoming environment with excellent amenities including an amazing outdoor classroom in the woods, which is just perfect for some of our more adventurous events.”
Lindsay Bloom, Head of Literacy at The Paragon, is thrilled that the Kids LitFest is coming to The Paragon;
“One of our principle tasks as a primary school is to teach children to read, but here at The Paragon we aim higher. We want to instil a deep love of stories and a passion for reading. As Dr Seuss would say ‘Be awesome. Be a book nut’.
That’s why we love the Kids LitFest; they have the same ethos. The festival creates a buzz about books giving children and teens the chance to meet their literary heroes and esteemed illustrators as well as the opportunity to immerse in their favourite book characters.
We are delighted to be part of the Kids LitFest and support literacy development for all children at these fantastic events right here in the heart of our community.”
As well as sponsoring major authors at the Kids LitFest, The Paragon is hosting some exciting activities:
- Who Lives Here with Michael Terry on Sunday 30th September
- The Great Explorer: Chris Judge on Sunday 7th October
- Tarzan: The New Jungle Warrior with Andy Briggs on Sunday 7th October
- The Stick Book with Jo Schofield & Fiona Danks on Sunday 7th October
- Five days of Cluster Events as part of the Schools Programme
