Last night, the parents of next year's Squirrels and Reception class children gathered at The Paragon for a briefing about the Early Years Foundation Stage.
The first years of school should be the happiest of any child's life, so the emphasis for the evening was on working closely with parents to help the children take their first steps in school life with confidence. We really appreciate families. Parents are a child's first educators and they know their children best.
Head of Pre-Prep, Sarah James gave a talk on the importance of the Foundation Stage:
"Early Years is not just about what the children know, but about encouraging a love of learning, developing the will and the skill to learn as well as the thrill of exciting new discoveries."
One of the topics covered was the first day of term and how to help the children get ready and settled into school. Jolly phonics was discussed and there was a demonstration of the interactive white board. Parents were able to meet the Early Years Team; teachers, the assistants and many of the specialist teachers.
After some wine and nibbles and the talk, there was time to chat to other parents. As it was a lovely summer's evening (so rare lately) there was a chance to enjoy the Reception class garden.
