A Giacometti Style Workshop with Zoe Woolley

Last week, Year 4 welcomed sculptor and parent Zoe Woolley for a hands-on clay workshop. Zoë, whose work often explores movement, texture, and the human form, introduced the children to Giacometti-style busts. She demonstrated how elongated shapes, rough surfaces, and expressive marks can bring a sculpture to life, encouraging pupils to experiment confidently with their own ideas.

The session linked with the class’s current project on African masks and sculpture. As the children shaped and textured their clay, they began to notice how small details—lines, patterns, and surface marks—can convey character and story. By the end of the workshop, the room was filled with unique, lively clay figures and a real sense of creative achievement.
