Author Emma Carroll visits The Paragon

We enjoyed a fantastic day with the acclaimed children's author Emma Carroll yesterday. Many of our older pupils have enjoyed her books such as Letters from the Lighthouse, The Somerset Tsunami, and In Darkling Wood amongst other Waterstones best sellers.

Emma was the judge of our Prep writing competition 'A bright future', and she announced the two winners and runners up in assembly - also presenting them with their prizes (including book tokens and a selection of her books). She then went on to give an inspirational talk on her journey to becoming a a published author.

Workshops with Years 5 and 6 were lively and got those creative minds working hard... and there was a huge queue for the book signing event!

Mrs Rachael Grinyer, Head of English at The Paragon said 'This was a wonderful opportunity for the children to meet a true idol for many of our pupils - Emma taught them some really great techniques to get started with writing and to make their ideas come to life - thank you Emma!'

Our writing competition winners will have extracts of their work published in our annual end of year magazine, PS. Look out for them, their stories will have you hooked!
