Year 5 have been learning about Oracle Bones in their Mandarin lessons this month, in a project in conjunction with the Museum of East Asian Art in Bath. Over 3500 years old, the bones were important finds relating to Chinese writing and history, and take the form of carved questions that people had about their lives and the King. The inscriptions are early Chinese scripts, recognizable as a written language, and the children designed their own Oracle Bones, featuring their own questions such as 'will I get a dog for Christmas?', 'will the virus go away so I can see my family' and 'is the universe is real?'!
