A Viking Assembly by 4H

Parents, teachers and pupils were treated to a fascinating assembly given by 4H this morning. Year 4 have been studying the Vikings for their History topic this term, and have written their own gory Icelandic tales, inspired by the tradition of storytelling that emerged from long winters, dark days and folklore surrounding the island. We heard all about trolls and deadly monsters lurking in the gloom, and learned that, unlike our traditional European fairy tales, the baddies quite often won! The children then acted scenes informing us about turf houses, the value of their sure-footed horses, folklore and elves (Huldufolk) and the Icelandic parliament -The Althing.
