'Battle of the Books' on World Book Day!

The Paragon was transformed today as pupils and staff dressed as their favourite literary characters to celebrate World Book Day. Mr and Mrs Twit aka Mrs Howden and Mr Hinde were on the loose, Mary Poppins and a Smurf manned the Reception desk, Winnie the Poo was trending in Pre-prep along with the crayons from 'The Day the Crayons Quit' by Drew Daywalt.

Mrs Clague (the Paperbag Princess) and Mrs Grinyer (Claude the dog) instigated a 'Battle of the Books' in assembly where staff members had one minute to persuade the audience to vote for their favourite. Mr Isherwood's very persuasive argument for Harry Potter got the most votes but we were all left on a cliffhanger about Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo which inspired a love of reading for Miss Barnes.

It has been week long celebration of storytelling where pre-prep were also treated to a session of traditional tales from a 'yarn spinner'. We hope that everyone feels inspired to pick up a new book this week! For more pictures from the day, visit our image gallery here.
