Music news from The Lodge

It has been a great musical start to the academic year. Our Director of Music, Mrs Sarah Kettlety tells us what has been happening in The Lodge in September:

'We've hit the ground running this year with a number of new initiatives in the music department. Year 3 have started the Bath Abbey singing programme and are coached weekly by their assistant Director of Music, Shean Bowers.  Shean works with over 15 schools around Bath and leads the wonderful 'Melody Makers' at the Abbey.  Meanwhile our young string players are getting ready to have string quartet training from Bath Strings Academy at Prior Park College.  This is a wonderful opportunity for them to develop their performance and ensemble skills.

Back at the music lodge Years 4 and 5 are busy rehearsing for a production of 'AHOY! Sing for the Mary Rose'; a colourful and energetic arrangement of sea shanties written by Alexander l'Estrange.  This will see our 80 students joining on stage with choirs from Prior Park College at the end of November for an evening of vibrant music-making.

Singing is alive and well at the Paragon, and this is reflected in the huge number of Joyful Noise auditions I have had to conduct this term.  The choir now has 30 members which is the biggest it has ever been!

And finally, September saw the return of guitar group.  This invitation-only group is led by our talented Colombian guitar teacher, Francisco Correa.  Francisco also teaches at the College when he is not touring and performing'.
